FDA Warns Consumers to Stop Using Recalled Shampoo Sold Nationwide

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is warning consumers to stop using a popular shampoo after a nationwide recall was announced over possible bacterial contamination.

The recalled product is Oribe Serene Scalp Densifying Shampoo, which was voluntarily recalled by Kao USA after testing detected the presence of Pluralibacter gergoviae in certain batches. While the bacteria poses little risk to healthy individuals, it may cause infections in people with weakened immune systems.

Which Shampoo Is Affected?

The recall includes specific lots of:

- Oribe Serene Scalp Densifying Shampoo (8.5 oz)

- Oribe Serene Scalp Densifying Shampoo (33.8 oz)

Only certain lot numbers manufactured in February 2026 are affected. Consumers should check the lot code printed on the bottom of the bottle.

What Should You Do?

If you own one of the affected bottles:

- Stop using the shampoo immediately.

- Check whether your lot number is included in the recall.

- Contact the retailer or Kao USA for instructions on a refund or replacement.

Although no serious injuries have been reported, the company issued the recall as a precaution while the investigation continues. Product recalls are an important reminder to stay informed about the beauty and personal care products we use every day. If you recently purchased Oribe Serene Scalp Densifying Shampoo, take a moment to verify whether your bottle is part of the recall and follow the FDA's guidance.
